Our History
Portlaoise Athletic Club has a proud and lasting history in the town, dating back to its founding in 1894 as Rory O’Moore Athletic Club. Over the years, it changed names several times—becoming Don Bosco in 1947, St. Brigid’s in 1954, and finally Portlaoise Athletic Club, the name it proudly carries today.

The club now has over 300 members, ranging from juvenile and junior athletes to senior and masters competitors. It has enjoyed great success in cross country and track and field, with athletes regularly competing at County, Leinster, National, and International levels.

Portlaoise Athletic Club continues to play an important role in the community, encouraging participation, promoting fitness, and fostering a lifelong love of athletics among people of all ages.
